What animal are you?

It’s the Chinese New Year– year 4710 on the Chinese calendar. The Chinese calendar is based on a lunar cycle, so is different from our calendar in the West. It falls on a different date every year depending on the movement of the moon.  According to legend the Jade Emperor decided that a race should be held to decide which 12 animals would be granted a zodiac year.

This year is the Year of the Dragon. Dragons are hard-working and constantly strive to be at the top – as we see in the UK TV programme Dragons Den! A Dragon is confident and inspirational. They love new projects and are full of energy. Loyalty to friends is another important trait.

The Dragon is the only mythical creature in the Chinese Zodiac (and considered to be the luckiest of the twelve animals).  However, amongst the other eleven animals, one of our personal favourites is the Tiger, so we set about checking out the characteristics of a person born under this sign.

If you’re a Tiger in the Chinese Zodiac you’re said to be confident and a risk taker. You can usually see the problems – but not always the solution. You may be a deep-thinker, and you’re likely to be sympathetic. You’re warm and generous to the people you love. Most of all, you’re sensitive, emotional and adventurous.

A perfect candidate, in fact, to volunteer to work on a Worldwide Experience wildlife project where you might get to see a real Tiger when you work with animals in Asia!  Animal conservation is something very close to our hearts as we provide a range of projects that allow people – young and old – from across the globe to get up close and personal with everything from a Colobus Monkey to the African cheetah. In fact, perhaps this is the year to make your own mark by working with animals abroad?

We would like to wish everyone a Happy Chinese New Year, whatever animal you are.

Rachel Hill

I have a great passion for wildlife & conservation, after an 8yr background of selling South Africa as a destination and Shamwari Game Reserve I have recently been lucky enough to get involved with Worldwide Experience and contribute towards making changes in people lives. The projects we offer are truly amazing and I hope together we can make a difference.
