"Attending the Wildlife Film Academy was one of the best decisions of my life. Coming from England I had the obvious doubts about coming abroad to undergo a film course."

Wildlife Film Academy

This month we have chosen the Wildlife Film Academy as our project of the month - the course is a great way for all you wannabe Wildlife Film makers to get a hands on experience and produce your very own wildlife film.

The Wildlife Film Academy is based on Entabeni Private Game Reserve located just three hours from Johannesburg. The reserve is 23,000 hectares in size and is home to many different animals including the big five as well as frequent viewings of cheetah. With more than 55 mammal species, 410 birds and 350 flower types there is plenty to choose from.

The course has set dates running through the year and we still have some spaces available on the November course:

23rd November - 22nd December 2009

To book a place on this course the rate is £3050.00 including flights from London Heathrow and taxes, accommodation, all meals, all road transfers and laundry, so if you would like to book a last minute place on this course and give your family your own edited film for Christmas then apply here.

The course has been set up to give volunteers the chance to spend a month learning all the different techniques needed to make a wildlife film. The course is filled with lectures; time in the editing suites and of course your time out on the reserve filming the animals and their environment. By the end of the course each student will have created a three minute film with soundtrack and your own narrating.

Whilst staying at Entabeni you are accommodated in thatched roof tents with twin beds. All rooms have an ensuite bathroom and a balcony overlooking the reserve. There is a dining area, entertainment area with pool table and a plunge pool as well as a TV. You also have access to computers, a film library and library of books.
We have also confirmed dates for next year's courses, so if you would like to find out more about this fantastic course and dates for next year please click here.

We have come over all sporty

As the buzz surrounding the forthcoming major sporting events in South Africa intensifies we have found a need for assistance in sports coaching to help build and harness the skills of young children in the townships of rural South Africa. This project can involve many different aspects of sports coaching such as teaching fitness regimes to coaching football to all levels of skill.

This is a great way to give something back to the local communities and work closely with them.

Places are flying, so get yours quickly

This year we have set up a new Vets Go Wild course - which has been designed specifically for elective students!! The course has been structured to fit the needs of 5th year students who require even more hands on experience than on our already in depth Vets Go Wild EMS course. The course will be a 21 day course and the main emphasis for the programme is on the practical experience and academic training.

We have the following dates set for this course:

9th February 2010 - 1st March 2010

We have already had a lot of spaces taken, but there is still a few left, so if you do not want to miss out on this brilliant opportunity then apply here.

FACT OF THE MONTH
The name 'leopard' came from the mistaken belief that they were a hybrid between a lion and a panther. A recessive gene causes melanism in some leopards, which people call panthers, but they are really just black leopards.
