Accredited by F.G.A.S.A. (Field guides association of South Africa), the Level One Ranger Training Course is ideal if you are thinking about pursuing a conservation-orientated career, or if you just want to improve your own personal knowledge of wildlife and game farming. It is a unique opportunity to come face to face with South Africa’s wild and diverse fauna and flora. It will impart essential knowledge, life skills and discipline needed to make a professional field guide.

This 6 Week course is situated in Big 5 Private Game Reserve located in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. It will allow you a first hand and practical insight into becoming a Game Ranger, by completing your level one field guide syllabus which is accredited by the FGASA (Field Guide Association of South Africa). The course is very hands on and is ideal for people that want to take their passion for conservation to the next level, it is also possible to add the 6 week game ranger course on to any of our other conservation or community based programmes.

There is no minimum entry level required, but a basic knowledge of game conservation and the veld would be helpful. The only requirements for the course is an international drivers licence and to register with FGASA. All aspects of conservation and survival skills are covered , helping to give you a greater understanding of the African bush and how to manage a game farm. It is accredited by the FGASA and on successful completion will give you an entry-level qualification in field guiding.

On completion of the course, students will be required to complete both a practical and theoretical examination. Students, who pass the final examination will be awarded a certificate of success.

Accommodation

You will be accommodated in basic, purpose-built accommodation on the reserve. To help further develop your wilderness skills you may be required to sleep out in the bush under the African sky. You will be sharing a room with one other person and sharing bathrooms. There is a MAX of 8 people per course.

Time Off
Due to nature of this project free time is minimal. Evenings are spent at leisure and can be spent enjoying the course accommodation or trips to the local town can be organised.
